Kuari Pass Trek is one of the most scenic and historically significant trekking routes in the Indian Himalayas. Organized by Chuchura Padatik, this trek offers breathtaking views of some of the highest peaks in India while taking trekkers through dense forests, charming Himalayan villages, and vast alpine meadows. Located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, the trek lies within the majestic mountain landscape surrounding Joshimath.
Often referred to as the “Curzon Trail,” the Kuari Pass route gained popularity after being explored by Lord Curzon, the former Viceroy of India, during the early 20th century. Since then, it has become one of the most beloved trekking routes for adventurers seeking stunning Himalayan views without extreme technical difficulty.
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun to Joshimath, a historic Himalayan town that serves as the gateway to several famous trekking and pilgrimage destinations in the region. From Joshimath, the route continues to the remote mountain village of Tugasi, where the trekking adventure officially begins.
The trail gradually climbs through beautiful oak and rhododendron forests towards Gulling, a peaceful campsite surrounded by wide meadows and open mountain views. As trekkers continue their ascent, the landscape becomes more dramatic while approaching Khullara, a scenic high-altitude campsite offering incredible views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges.
The highlight of the trek is the climb to Kuari Pass, located at an altitude of approximately 4,239 meters. The summit offers one of the most spectacular panoramic viewpoints in the Garhwal Himalayas. From the top, trekkers can witness breathtaking views of iconic peaks including Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, Kamet, Hathi Parvat, and Ghori Parvat.
After enjoying the spectacular summit views, the trek gradually descends back through alpine meadows and forest trails to Tugasi village before returning to Joshimath. The journey concludes with a scenic drive back to Dehradun or Rishikesh, completing a memorable Himalayan adventure.
With a maximum altitude of 4,239 meters and a diverse trail that includes forests, meadows, and high mountain ridges, the Kuari Pass Trek offers a perfect balance of adventure and scenic beauty. The trek is considered moderately challenging, making it suitable for both beginners with good fitness and experienced trekkers looking for a classic Himalayan route.
With Chuchura Padatik, trekkers can expect experienced trek leaders, well-managed campsites, comfortable hotel stays in Joshimath, and nutritious vegetarian meals throughout the journey. Our focus is to provide a safe, responsible, and unforgettable trekking experience while preserving the pristine Himalayan environment.
